The well-known Czech novelist Milan Kundera wrote in his book named “The Book of Laughter and Forgetting”, “The struggle of man against power is the struggle of memory against forgetting”. Because of the human nature of being content with the status quo, it’s easy to forget the enormous disaster of authoritarianism. However, the memory tells people of the existence of dictatorship and persecution,  and awoken the people to stand up against inhuman regimes.

34 years ago, the Chinese communist regimes crack down the peaceful protest and killed almost ten thousand innocent people in China’s capital Beijing on June 4, 1989. This is an unprecedented catastrophe against democracy and human rights. Today, the Chinese communist regime continues to suppress at home and aggressively abroad. Like Russia invaded Ukraine, this regime wants to take Taiwan and reshape the current international order.

Therefore, we should recall the memory of the Tiananmen massacre and awoke the world people recognize the threat of the Chinese communist regime, and encourage people to struggle and protest it constantly until the day of end it.

This is the significance of memory of the June 4 34 anniversary.
